Dot 2 Dot Child Care is a Play Based/Wonder Based program. This makes my program unique from many others as I fully believe learning happens naturally through play. There is NO circle time, worksheets, crafts that look the same, calendar/weather charts, flashcards, and forced table time activities.
What my program DOES look like -- each child using their five senses to discover, wonder and explore. This is done through sensory tables, free play, messy play, outdoor time, and loose parts. I totally believe in following the interests of the children.
Research shows that developing a child's social emotional skills is more important than learning their ABC's and numbers at a young age. The skills we focus on are the skills employers are looking for in potential employees: creativity, critical thinking, patience, sharing, problem solving, trial & error, self regulation, owning discoveries, conflict resolution, compromising, asking for what we need and imagination.
When children can imagine, they can envision solutions to problems. ~ Rae Pica
I feel spending time exploring nature outdoors is extremely important. Many children nowadays spend little to no time outside. We go outside every single day-unless the windchill is extremely cold or the heat index is too hot.
We are also lucky to be co-owners of eight acres immediately behind our house. This tract of land allows for opportunities of exploration and hiking.
Our outdoor classroom features a couple of art areas, a mud kitchen, a variety of water play features, a playhouse and room to run.
