About Me

My name is Susan Dotson.  I am married to my husband Mike and we have 3 boys. As a family we spend our free time hiking, camping and exploring the Rocky Mountains. Our family also includes two dogs that were tiny puppies when we brought them home.  They grew up surrounded by the child care and absolutely love the children. Aspen is a Lab mix.  Tuff is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. 

 

Ever since I was a little girl I dreamed of being a teacher. My mom had a family child care in our home for many years. I loved helping her out with the kids. I started baby-sitting in the 5th grade. I went to college to pursue a teaching degree.  Due to circumstances, I changed my major. However, I still had a longing to teach and care for children.

June 1, 2004, Dot 2 Dot Daycare opened for business.  Over the years, the philosophy and teaching practices have evolved, as has the name.

 

Highlights since opening: 

• September 2004 completed my CDA (Child      Development Associate) Credential.  Every three years since, I have completed the required classes to renew my credential.  

• November 2005 completed South Dakota Infant- Toddler Certificate.  

• May 2016 received the Rapid City Early           Childhood Educator of the Year Award.

• Member of FCCPSD (Family Child Care              Professionals of South Dakota).  I have held a board position since 2011.  

• Member of the local CCSBH (Child Care            Specialists of the Black Hills).  I currently hold the positions of Treasurer and Education Chair. 

• Presenter at Early Childhood Connections in      Rapid City and a variety of conferences.
